I have specialized in diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in education and writing—areas which speak to my community’s values of peace and balance in justice. I have endeavored throughout my writing, editing, and education career of 15+ years to create welcoming, immersive learning environments, with 10+ years working within DEIB initiatives. I offer consulting services which include lectures, training programs, outlining organizational issues, and deep investigations of programming and thought change needs.
When I became involved in a month-long program studying Indigenous art, literature, and culture, where most texts read and scholars brought in were non-Native (mostly white male), and where a scholar claimed a young Haida man didn't know his own culture's art unless he studied it at a university, I saw my calling very clearly: change the education system from the inside. This is erasure at a deep level that will take time to illuminate and to change for the better--and not just for Indigenous issues. Quick fixes and band-aids will not work. I believe strongly that we can all work together to better communicate and collaborate on how to reconfigure general education individually for each institution. Large, general changes to higher education will implement structures which will only work for some universities, but NOT all. I offer consulting services that look carefully at your institution's inner workings, long-term goals, and student population with students of difference in mind. Being a Native female scholar, I offer a perspective from a group that has been harmed and traumatized by the education systems and whom seeks healing practices in such settings. I work honestly, and I will challenge your institution to uncover deep issues, while also offering solutions.
To hire me as a consultant my fees are the following: $50 (non-profit or smaller businesses) $100 (universities and larger organizations) an hour for general, long term advising and regular project work $125 (non-profit or smaller businesses) $300 (universities and larger organizations) an hour for short term, general advising of a few hours $1000 for one hour with a 15 minute Q&A group session (either local to me in Rhode Island or zoom) If travel is necessary, I would need to adjust my fees accordingly.
For a full critical investigation of some sector of the institution, or specialized training, please contact me at the below form. Please be sure to include your name, title, institution, e-mail, phone number, and level of interest in my services. I prefer phone calls first. A preliminary half hour meeting will help me to decipher what might work best for your organization and the costs.
